2016 Healthy School Hero: Tyenise Blackmon
FBISD Community Engagement Liaison
Tyenise Blackmon is a health advocate in her district and serves as the chair of the Family and Community Engagement subcommittee. She is part of a multitude of health and wellness initiatives, from health fairs to sporting events to Rethink Your Drink campaigns. However, starting the HYPE (Healthy Youth Pursuing Excellence) Club while she was the District Parent Educator has been the most fulfilling for her. The club was designed to educate youth on how to lead a healthy lifestyle. HYPE students have participated in a fun walk/run, visited the Houston Health Museum and even participated in a cooking competition. Tyenise was recently promoted to the Community Engagement Liaison at Fort Bend Independent School District to identify campus needs and assist with meeting those needs through community partnerships and parent engagement.
Through health education Tyenise strives to empower her students as leaders and help them realize they can make a difference in their school, families and community. Her goal is to continue the HYPE Club momentum and help her students be strong health advocates on campus.
“The most rewarding part is seeing the smile on the kids’ faces,” says Tyenise. “It amazes me how much the kids love being a part of a health and wellness club. They never want to leave!”
