National Recognition for School-Health Partnerships
At the 2025 American School Health Association (ASHA) Conference, Action for Healthy Kids was honored with a Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child (WSCC) Award — a recognition we’re proud to share with the many districts, schools and partners who make this work possible.
The WSCC Award honors organizations that embody the WSCC model by linking health and education through strong alignment, integration, and collaboration across programs, policies, and people.
The Power of Showing Up — Together
The award was just one part of an energizing week filled with learning, sharing, and connecting with others who are driving change in school health.
Action for Healthy Kids showed up in full force at ASHA — leading presentations, hosting an exhibit booth, and sharing program insights through a dedicated poster session. Our executive team, including CEO Rob Bisceglie and Chief Growth Officer Shellie Pfohl, was also on site to support and celebrate the work happening in the field.
“This recognition from ASHA affirms what we’ve always believed: that student health and learning go hand in hand, and we can scale our progress through partnerships,” said Rob Bisceglie, CEO of Action for Healthy Kids. “I’m incredibly proud of our team and deeply grateful to the schools, districts, and communities we partner with every day. This award reflects their commitment to creating healthier, more supportive environments for kids.”
Sharing What Works
In addition to receiving the WSCC Award, Action for Healthy Kids team members presented sessions and promoted dialogue on school nutrition, wellness advocacy, and nicotine prevention. Speakers included:
- Montana Brown, connecting student wellness to academic achievement through school leadership and policy
- Carrie Schiedel, highlighting school gardens as spaces for youth connection and leadership
- Maureen Bailey, sharing family engagement best practices and success stories in school meal programs
- Kimber Cook, presenting early findings from our Second Chance and TrustEd programs during the poster session
Each session showcased the depth of our mission and the real-world outcomes in schools nationwide.
“Supporting schools to implement proven, real-world practices is how we drive better outcomes for kids — and sharing those practices across the field is how we scale impact,” said Lesley Graham, Vice President of Programs at Action for Healthy Kids. “Our presence at ASHA was about exchanging learning, sparking dialogue, and lifting up what works in program domains across the WSCC model.”
A Shared Recognition
We view this Award as a collective win — not just for Action for Healthy Kids, but for every school, district, and community that collaborates to create healthier, more supportive learning environments.
To every educator, administrator, and school wellness leader walking this path with us — thank you. This moment belongs to you, too.
