Action for Healthy Kids® and Saputo Provide Grants to 80 Schools for 2016-2017 School Year

CHICAGO (September 29, 2016) – Action for Healthy Kids® (AFHK) announces the 80 recipients of Game On grants for the 2016-2017 school year, provided through funding from Saputo. Awarded in California, Minnesota, New York, Texas and Wisconsin, the Game On grants aim to expand student access to in-school physical activity and healthy foods, improve knowledge and behaviors around exercise and nutrition, and engage parents in activities that reinforce healthy habits at home.

Each awarded recipient of the Game On program will receive a $1,000 grant to be used for a variety of wellness purposes including:

  • Physical activity components, such as funding for physical education, active indoor and outdoor recess, classroom energizers, walking and running clubs, and before- and after-school programs; and
  • Nutrition components, such as education, school gardens, taste tests, and healthy classroom parties and celebrations that introduce students to the value of an active, healthy lifestyle.

Thanks to Saputo’s support the grants are expected to impact more than 38,000 students this school year and to reach 240 schools and 100,000 students over the next three years. Additionally, AFHK will connect Saputo employees and schools with volunteer engagement opportunities, to help the schools successfully implement their health and wellness programs.

“With Saputo’s support, we are able to provide much-needed resources in the form of grants and technical assistance that will help put more schools on the path to becoming health-promoting environments,” said Rob Bisceglie, CEO, Action for Healthy Kids. “These grants help schools build programs that will impact students well beyond this school year, and we are excited about embarking on this long-term partnership with Saputo.”
