Join a Team

Action for Healthy Kids teams are at the forefront of the fight against childhood obesity, and prevention. Team members:

  • build relationships and connect people interested in helping kids and schools be healthier, including parents, teachers, principals, school food service professionals and nurses, dietitians, fitness experts, and state health and education departments;
  • provide educational information;
  • help understand and bridge cultural differences;
  • work directly with schools to develop and implement their wellness policies or action plans; and
  • help organize and deliver Action for Healthy Kids programs at schools; and
  • provide leadership and promote Action for Healthy Kids in their state and local communities.

Teams are in every state and the District of Columbia. Each team develops and then works from its own annual “action plan,” which is based on the mission and goals of Action for Healthy Kids yet customized to address state and local needs. Teams receive support, coaching and funding from national Action for Healthy Kids and our partner organizations to help them successfully implement their action plans.

Why join a team?

  • Learn about healthy eating and physical activity to help your school, family and/or yourself.
  • Meet and volunteer with others who share your passion about making a difference for the well-being of kids.
  • Expand your network of friends and colleagues.
  • Learn new skills (such as research, leadership and how to influence school leaders).
  • Our kids need you!

What do teams need?

Our teams need lots of different skills including, but not limited to:

  • planning;
  • communications/public relations;
  • fundraising;
  • project management;
  • advocacy; and
  • passion and a willingness to work with schools and kids.

You don’t need to be a health or education professional to join a team!
