It is hard to get products that meet nutritional guidelines for the vending and snack areas.
In establishing nutrition standards for a school or district, it will be important to work with vendors to identify products that will meet standards. However, if standards need to be compromised because of vendor constraints, make sure that the vendor understands that stronger standards will be phased in over a certain period and that alternate vendors will be sought if standards cannot be met. While years ago it was more difficult to find healthy vended foods and beverages, companies are making very positive changes in this area and there are now many more products to choose from.
