The ReCharge! Energizing After-School kit is packed with tools, activities and information you need to implement the program, including:

  • Coach's Clipboard with background information about the Five Food Groups, physical activity, teamwork and goal-setting; background basics on football; and a listing of resources and links for instructors.
  • ReCharge! Student Playbook In the National Football League, each player is given a confidential playbook to hold important information to help his team reach success. Students customize their own playbooks as they complete activities and reach their goals. Within the Student Playbook are reproducible handouts that support many of the activities.
  • Student Activities featuring play-by-play instructions. The activities cover the core concepts of nutrition, physical activity, teamwork and goal-setting. Included throughout the activities in the kit are "Going Futher" references to 11 additional downloadable activities from this website. These downloadable activities offer opportunities for students to further explore and advance these concepts.

Five Food Groups Search & Rescue – While racing against the clock, students use agility and critical thinking skills as they strategically work with their team to gather foods from all Five Food Groups.
Serving Up Nutrition – Students compare the portions of foods they serve themselves to the serving sizes listed on food packages.

  • "Energy In – Energy Out" Tracker – developed in partnership with the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, to help students "keep score" of their healthy nutrition and physical activity choices.

  • Evaluation and Objectives - includes a listing of the objectives of each activity organized by knowledge, attitudes, skills and evaluation tools to help you assess the success of the program.

  • Home Field Advantage - materials, including four take-home newsletters in English- and Spanish-language versions.
  • Healthy After-school Snack Guide - with background information and specific suggestions on how to provide and fund healthy snacks for students in your program – plus fun and healthy snack ideas for students to make at school or at home. Nutritious, easy and fun-to-prepare recipes can also be found in the Student Playbook.
  • Equipment – four Wilson® NFL Youth Footballs.
  • ReCharge! "Energy In – Energy Out" Poster with the Five Food Groups and physical activity images.
  • Food Models – 200 colorful, portion-size images of healthy foods produced by the National Dairy Council that complement the 2005 Dietary Guidelines and the MyPyramid food guidance system. Each model contains a label on its backside that illustrates the sample's nutrient value. The food labels aid students in the preparation of healthy meals and in making comparisons of healthful and less healthful food choices. Additionally, they can be used across curricula.  When kids learn how to count their calories, they simultaneously learn about health and math!
  • Portable Storage Container for all of your ReCharge! materials.

And throughout the program materials you'll find:

  • Key Discussion Points that reinforce important "takeaway" concepts from each activity.
  • "Easier" and "Harder" Strategies to adapt activities for children of different skill and ability levels.
  • Parent Tips for extending activities and discussions to those at home.
  • Mentoring Tips for engaging older and younger students together and promoting service learning.
