The Florida Action for Healthy Kids has successfully implemented several large grant projects over the past few years. From hosting ReCharge! Energizing After-School trainings across the state in 2007 to educating children in Hillsborough County Schools on leading a healthy lifestyle in 2008 to assisting Flagler and Putnam County Schools with implementing their wellness policies in 2009, to partnering with the Department of Education on Regional Wellness Policy trainings in 2011, the Florida Team has been helping create healthy schools all across the state. In 2010, Florida was awarded a Capacity Grant from National AFHK to grow our dynamic leadership team to a full scale coaltion of collaborators, associates, school champions and grassroots volunteers.
Florida Action for Healthy Kids continues to partner with the Florida Coordinated School Health Partnership and most recently, the Florida Association of District School Superintendents to recognize qualified districts as Florida Healthy School Districts. This recognition is determined by sumbission of the Florida Healthy District Self-Assessment and a score rating at the bronze, silver or gold level.
The Florida Healthy School Districts are districts that have made a high level commitment to meeting the health needs of students and staff in order to remove barriers to learning and maximize district resources.
The criterion for recognition as a Florida Healthy School District is the Florida Healthy School District (FHSD) Self-Assessment Tool that focuses on district infrastructure, policy, programs, and practices identified from national and state guidelines, best practices, and Florida statutes.
