Action for Healthy Kids is a national grassroots organization specifically addressing the epidemic of overweight, undernourished and sedentary youth by focusing on changes at school. Action for Healthy Kids is a public-private partnership of more than 60 national organizations and government agencies representing education, health, fitness and nutrition, which support the efforts of the 51 Action for Healthy Kids Teams (in all states and the District of Columbia) made up of more than 9,000 volunteers. Action for Healthy Kids is seeking a Grants Manager with considerable grant-writing experience. The Grants Manager will work with the Director of Development and other staff members to solicit grants/donations from foundations, corporations, individuals and government agencies and also manage the reporting process for awarded grants. The Grants Manager is a member of the Development Team and is responsible for all aspects of grant funding for Action for Healthy Kids, including research, application, cultivation, reporting, correspondence and acknowledgments with potential and veteran donors. The Grants Manager will identify and pursue opportunities for support, including government agencies, foundations, corporations, clubs, and organizations. The position is responsible for cultivating and maintaining relationships with current and potential grant funders. The Grants Manager will demonstrate a commitment to and understanding of data management and will be active in efforts to expand philanthropic support. Specific responsibilities for the position of Grants Manager include, but are not limited to:-
"Grant, sponsorship, letter of intent, and report writing
- The Grants Manager will prepare grants, letters of intent and reports to corporations, foundations, government agencies and clubs.
- The Grants Manager will prepare sponsorship packages to corporations interested in sponsoring lunches, workshops, and conferences for organization.
- Fundraising database management
- The Grants Manager will prepare narrative and financial reports and track due dates of reports in the database system.
- Prospect and topical research
- The Grants Manager will maintain working knowledge of key programmatic areas in the organization, research potential funders aligned with mission and program areas of the organization and coordinate plan to secure funding from potential donor.
- Special event coordination
- The Grants Manager will secure meeting location and transportation and manage timeline and other tasks related to special event planning.

Donor correspondence
- Prepare narrative and financial information upon donor request and for reporting purposes.
- Prepare marketing kits to include fact sheets, annual report, board lists, press releases, published articles for visits with potential and veteran funders.
- Bachelor's Degree, advanced degree preferred
- Minimum of three years in development and fundraising
- Demonstrated experience in successful grant writing and other development activities
- Self-starter and independent worker
- Ability to work as part of a fast moving staff team
- Experience working with volunteers
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities, meet deadlines, and track work
- Ability to travel

Research Intern
At the heart of the Action for Healthy Kids initiative are State Teams composed of individuals who are committed to improving the nutrition and fitness of our nation’s children. To help State Teams understand the challenges they face, Action for Healthy Kids created State Profiles to provide important background information and data on nutrition and fitness. Each State Profile contains the following national and state-level data: school demographics, charter schools, health behaviors and risks, school food programs & hunger, income demographics, legislation, policy, standards and assessment, important state links, and references.Position Summary: Under the guidance of Action for Healthy Kids leadership, the Research Intern’s main role would be to conduct and compile research to update the State Profiles.
Qualifications/ Requirements:
- Third or fourth year college student pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in public health, public policy, or a related field
- Ability to coordinate all stages of project activities, from planning and development through execution
- Excellent organizational skills to ensure deadlines are met and tasks are accomplished
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work as part of a fast moving staff team
- Detail-oriented, resourceful, self-motivated and able to work independently
