State Teams

At the core of Action for Healthy Kids is a national network of volunteers helping schools and kids learn to be healthier. We have teams of volunteers – passionate individuals and experts – in every state and the District of Columbia working with school administrators, food service providers, teachers, health professionals, parents, students and others who serve and care about our kids.

Their efforts are based on the needs of local schools, communities and kids, and include:

  • providing educational information;
  • building relationships;
  • helping schools develop and implement wellness policies or action plans;
  • serving on or advising school wellness councils;
  • helping understand and bridge cultural differences;
  • offering expertise and coaching to help schools implement Action for Healthy Kids’ programs, including Game On! The Ultimate Wellness Challenge, ReCharge! Energizing After-School and Students Taking Charge, that will bring their action plans to life; and
  • providing leadership and promotion of Action for Healthy Kids in their state and local communities.

Our teams are making a difference. Their results of working together with schools are impressive and it’s encouraging to think what is yet to come! During the 2008-09 school year alone, Action for Healthy Kids reached nearly 4 million kids in 8,000 schools in nearly 1,100 school districts across the country.
