Katherine Kaufer Christoffel is a professor of Pediatrics and Preventive Medicine and director of the Community-Engaged Research Center of the NUCATS Institute at the Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University. She is also an attending pediatrician at Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago. At Children's Memorial Hospital, Dr. Christoffel serves as the director for the Center for Obesity Management and Prevention.
A nationally respected researcher, Dr. Christoffel has authored numerous papers including, The epidemiology of overweight in children: Relevance for clinical care (Pediatrics 1998) as well as editorials and chapters on childhood injuries. She is the recipient of professional awards from the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Public Health Association, and other national groups. She was the principal investigator on a five-year NICHD-funded study of urban childhood pedestrian injuries and a member of the most recent Institute of Medicine Committee on Injury Prevention.
Dr. Christoffel received her BA in Philosophy from Radcliffe College, her MD from Tufts University Medical School, and her MPH in Epidemiology from Northwestern University Medical School.
