Judith C. Young, PhD
Vice President for Programs, American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance


Judith Young is the vice president for Programs at the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (AAHPERD). In this role, she facilitates programmatic work of the five national associations that make up the Alliance, which collectively represent almost 25,000 professionals in the fields of physical education, exercise science, health, recreation, sport and dance.

As former Executive Director of the National Association for Sport and Physical Education, Dr. Young oversaw development of the National Standards for Physical Education, as well as National Standards for Sport Coaches. Her previous experience includes teacher, coach, administrator, and a professor and researcher in the field of kinesiology.

Dr. Young is a member of the National Association for Kinesiology and Physical Education in Higher Education, American College of Sports Medicine, American Society of Association Executives, National Council of Youth Sports and Women's Sports Foundation. She also serves on the American Council for Fitness and Nutrition, the Council for Corporate and School Partnerships, USOC Delegate Assembly and the Citizenship Through Sports Alliance.

Dr. Young received degrees in physical education from the University of New Hampshire and MS and PhD degrees in kinesiology from the University of Maryland at College Park.
