John W. Rowe, MD

John W. Rowe is a professor in Health Policy and Management at the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University. He was formerly Chairman and CEO of Aetna Inc., one of the nation's leading health care and related benefits organizations. Prior to joining Aetna, he served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Mount Sinai NYU Health, one of the nation's largest academic health care organizations. Dr. Rowe was also a professor of Medicine, founding director of the Division on Aging at Harvard Medical School and chief of Gerontology at Boston's Beth Israel Hospital.
His research and health policy efforts regarding care of the elderly has earned Dr. Rowe many honors and awards. He was director of the MacArthur Foundation Research Network on Successful Aging and is co-author, with Robert Kahn, PhD, of Successful Aging (Pantheon, 1998).
Dr. Rowe serves on the board of directors of the Rockefeller Foundation, the University of Connecticut, the YMCA of Greater New York, Morehouse School of Medicine and the Lincoln Center Theater.
