ReCharge! reinforces the following National Health Education
Standards, developed by a joint committee on National Health Education
Standards:
- Standard 1: Student will comprehend concepts related to health
promotion and disease prevention.
- Standard 6: Students will demonstrate the ability to use goal-setting
and decision-making skills to enhance health.
- Standard 7: Students will demonstrate the ability to advocate
for personal, family and community health.
These are the guidelines for the amount and type of physical activity
that children should have. In addition to participation in after-school
activities and intramural sports, students should have a comprehensive,
quality physical education program during the school day. Such a program
will provide a portion of the minimum daily physical activity children
need.
ReCharge! addresses the following guidelines, developed by the
National Association for Sport and Physical Education:
- Children should
accumulate at least 60 minutes and up to several hours of age-appropriate
activity on all or most days of the week. This should include moderate
and vigorous physical activity with the majority of time spent in activity
that is intermittent.
- Children should participate in several bouts
of physical activity lasting 15 minutes or more each day.
- Children
should participate each day in a variety of age-appropriate physical
activities designed to achieve optimal health, wellness, fitness and
performance benefits.
- Extended periods (periods of two hours or more)
of inactivity are discouraged for children, especially during the day.
National Standards for Parent/Family Involvement
ReCharge! addresses
five of the six standards for parent/family involvement programs developed
by the National PTA:
- Standard 1: Communicating — Communication between home and
school is regular, two-way and meaningful.
- Standard 2: Parenting — Parenting skills are promoted and
supported.
- Standard 3: Student Learning — Parents play an integral role
in assisting student learning.
- Standard 4: Volunteering — Parents are welcome in the school,
and their support and assistance are sought.
- Standard 6: Collaborating with Community — Community resources
are used to strengthen schools, families and student learning.
