The
"Energy In-Energy Out" Tracker is an easy,
motivating tool to help build your students' awareness of their own nutrition
and physical activity choices — and to track and celebrate their successes
along the way. Throughout the ReCharge! program, you'll see the tracker
icon as a reminder for students to use the tracker.
- Students track "Energy In" by making at least three
healthy nutrition choices each day from a list they are given.
- Students track "Energy Out" by being physically active for
60 minutes a day at least five days a week.
- Students should use the tracker for
at least one week and, ideally, up to six weeks.

Tracking "Energy In"
To help customize the "Energy In" Tracker for
your students' grade, knowledge or ability, three versions are provided,
each with a different list of healthy choices.
- Rookie Tracker (PDF) is
the simplest version of the Tracker. Students are presented with five
healthy nutrition choices, one from each of the Five Food Groups. The
Rookie Tracker is introduced and explained at the end of Activity
8 in Module 1 of ReCharge!
- Veteran Tracker
(PDF) is ideal to introduce in Module 2, as students' knowledge
about healthy nutrition choices builds. In the Veteran Tracker, students
are presented with eight healthy nutrition choices, each corresponding
to content covered in Modules 1 and 2. The Veteran Tracker is introduced
and explained at the end of Activity
17, Module 2.
- All-Pro Tracker (PDF) is the most advanced and specific tracker,
in which students can choose from seven healthy eating goals that they
can determine for themselves. This tracker asks students to make specific
choices about food groups and numbers of servings, so should be used
with students who are comfortable with, and ready for these concepts.
The All-Pro Tracker is introduced and explained at the end of Activity
22 in Module 3.
Tracking "Energy Out"
The "Energy Out" Tracker is the same for everyone! To track "Energy
Out," Action for Healthy Kids and the National Football League teamed
up with the President's Challenge, which
asks kids to be physically active for 60 minutes each day for at least
five of the seven days in each week. Students can choose the activities
they like doing — whether it's at home, at school, alone or with
friends and family. See
Tips for Tracking Energy Out (PDF) for ideas.
